The Museum

In this aerial photo you can see the Secret Annex as it is now. It is a museum, which close to a million people visit every year. No one could have imagined that just after the war.

Otto Frank no longer owned the building after the war. It had been sold, and the new owner had plans to demolish it. A group of Amsterdam residents didn’t want that. Together with Otto Frank they set up the Anne Frank House organization. The organization collected money to buy the building and turn it into a museum. They succeeded, and on May 3, 1960 the museum was opened. The Anne Frank House museum attracted more and more visitors from all over the world: 180,000 in 1970; 336,000 in 1980; 647,000 in 1990 and 965,000 in 2005.
