Anne Frank [+ you}

World War II and the holocaust seem a very long time ago. More than 60 years. Fewer and fewer people are able to talk about it from their own experiences … Mainly black and white images, not much colour … Yet at the same time hundreds of thousands of people visit the Anne Frank House each year to see the Secret Annexe where Anne Frank wrote her diary.

In her diary Anne Frank poses difficult questions: Why is there war? Why are Jewish people hated and discriminated against? What is freedom? What is the importance of being cared for and caring for others? The questions that Anne Frank asked herself and tried to answer are unfortunately still relevant today. Sometimes in het diary Anne takes a critical look at herself: Who is she? What does she want to be? How do others see her? How does she want others to see her? In the sources five of the questions she poses are explored in more detail:
  1. Free?
  2. H8 you?
  3. Wanna fight?
  4. Who are u?
  5. Who cares?

The Anne Frank Trust UK

“Anne Frank + you” is a travelling exhibition about Anne Frank, her diary and the Holocaust. But it is not just about historical facts. Five themes are explored: hate, war, freedom, caring and identity. The Anne Frank Trust can give you information on where the exhibition is on display. Also the Trust stages the Anne Frank Awards, organises the planting of Anne Frank Trees and distributes books, CDs and videos. You can also sign up to the Anne Frank Declaration on the Trust’s website.
