Fritz and Charlotte
Fritz Pfeffer and Charlotte Kaletta in Noordwijk (the Netherlands), 1939.

After the war Charlotte Pfeffer said:

‘We left Berlin after the terrible night in November 1938 and emigrated to Holland. But many of the Dutch did not believe the stories we told them about Germany. Not even the Jews in Holland could believe it.’

From ‘The Footsteps of Anne Frank’ by Ernst Schnabel (Frankfurt am Main, 1958).
