Miep Gies often visits the Frank family. In her book she writes:

‘Mrs Frank missed Germany a great deal, much more than Mr Frank. She would refer with melancholy to their life in Frankfurt, to the superiority of some kinds of German sweets and the quality of German clothing.’

From ‘Anne Frank Remembered’, by Miep Gies (Amsterdam 1987).
