Miep Gies on Johannes Kleiman

In late 1940 Otto Franks’ firm moves from Singel 400 to Prinsengracht 263 in Amsterdam. Soon afterwards Otto Frank employs Johannes Kleiman. Miep Gies says of him in her book ' Anne Frank Remembered':

‘Shortly after we moved Mr Frank took a middle-aged Dutch gentlemen into the company. His name was Mr Jo Koophuis. He had various business dealings with Mr Frank over the years and seemed to be a personal friend as well. Koophuis was a frail-looking, pale-faced man, with large, thick glasses, a pinched nose and a delicate look. He was a quiet person whose personality immediately inspired feelings of trust and kindness. Koophuis and I quickly established a warm rapport.’
